Backpack Event for Tribal Youth Outside of Southeast Alaska

Tlingit & Haida is pleased to provide backpacks to tribal citizen youth who reside outside of Southeast Alaska!

The Rescue Relief Backpack event is funded under the Tribe's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to ensure tribal citizen youth have the resources they need to stay safe while returning to school.

The backpacks will include starter school supplies and a COVID-19 safety kit (i.e., water bottle, face mask, whistle, flashing reflector, hand sanitizer, flashlight, and an educational COVID-19 safety coloring book).

Application Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must reside outside of Southeast Alaska
  • Must be enrolled with Tlingit & Haida
  • Must be between the age of pre-school to grade 12

Tlingit & Haida is pleased to host a special virtual Native Issues Forum! Tribes, Sealaska and the Nature Conservancy share a common vision for the future of Southeast Alaska and will share an exciting announcement to mark a new era of collaboration and community impact. The forum will be held via Zoom and Facebook Live with a Q&A period.

2021 Southeast Environmental Conference

Tlingit & Haida is pleased to announce information for the 2021 Southeast Environmental Conference (SEC)! With the safety and well-being of our communities in mind, the 2021 SEC will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Although the conference will not be held in person this year, we are excited to offer a platform for stakeholders in our region to learn, share and engage together!

 

Every year, the SEC brings together Southeast tribes, natural resource professionals, agencies, and organizations within our region to learn and address common environmental priorities. The SEC 2021 will provide participants with information and training on transboundary mining, climate change, harmful algal blooms, tribal conservation districts, oil spill/response, brownfield sites, and more.

Child Development Associate (CDA) Course

Dates: October 25 - December 17, 2021

The Child Development Associate (CDA) course will be delivered through a blended learning environment that includes direct coaching and instruction, online training, and early childhood classroom internships. Successful candidates will graduate with a national CDA credential and receive job placement assistance. If you are interested in working with young children and families, we encourage you to register for the CDA course!

All classes will follow approved standards to provide a safe teaching environment to limit the risk of COVID-19 and other health risks associated with the training.

Financial Skills Courses 

Dates: November 1, 2 & 3 • 6 PM - 8 PM

Looking to build your credit and improve your personal financial wellness? Join us for a virtual workshop where you will learn strategies for managing your money, setting financial goals, building credit, and more! Participants who complete the workshop will be eligible to apply for a Credit-Builder Card through Tongass Federal Credit Union!

Administrative Assistant, Level 1

Dates: November 8 - December 15, 2021

(Monday - Friday) 8 AM - 5 PM

Location: Virtual or In-Person

Administrative assistants are an integral part of any office across industries. This hands on, intensive training will provide students with the skills and knowledge needed for entry level employment in the administrative field. The training covers hard and soft skills, computer skills, office safety, communication, critical thinking and accounting awareness to help the participant develop a strong working knowledge of the complexities of an office environment.


Participants must be 18 years or older and have access to a computer with Internet, microphone, and camera. If located in Juneau, the VTRC will provide necessary computer work stations on site.

The discussion will be hosted by Tlingit & Haida President Richard Chalyee Éesh Peterson. The event will be live on Tlingit & Haida’s Facebook page as an opportunity to share information with our tribal citizens. Each chat will include a Q&A period and close with a random door prize drawing.
